Kids Are Back in School. Your Turn.

You've been on the bench three nights a week for a while now.

You know where the water fountain is. You know which coach runs which class. You've watched your kid go from flinching at the bag to hitting it with intent.

September is when parents' schedules finally settle. The pickups are set. This is the season to stop watching and start training.

You already know this place

Most adults who walk into a martial arts school for the first time are nervous. They don't know the coaches, the culture, or whether they'll fit.

You have none of those problems. You've seen how classes run. You've seen who's on the mat. It's a room full of regular adults who show up, work hard, and leave in a better mood than they came in.

That removes the hardest part.

What the class actually is

Our Adult Kickboxing Fundamentals class is built for beginners, and it stays useful for years.

An hour looks like this:

  • A warm-up

  • Eight technical rounds on the bag, learning the week's footwork and combinations

  • Three free rounds to put it together and make it your own

  • One strength training round to finish

It's coach-led from start to finish. Nobody is thrown in with the advanced group. Nobody spars unless they choose to. You work at your level, and your level moves faster than you'd expect.

We have 28 heavy bags and a big, clean room to train hard safely. Every class you leave having worked your whole body and learned something.

What it does for an adult

We see the same changes every fall.

People get leaner and stronger. Their conditioning comes back — stairs, yard work, keeping up on the weekend. They handle stress better, because they spent an hour focused on something demanding instead of their phone. They sleep.

None of this requires being in shape first. Training is what builds the shape.

The part about your kid

Here's the thing most parents don't think about until they've started.

Your child has been watching you on that bench for months. They've seen you check your phone, chat with other parents, wait.

When you get on the mat, they see something different. They see you struggle with a combination they already know. They see you keep going. They see you get better.

"Parents tell me they signed up for the workout. What they don't expect is how much it changes the way their kid sees them. When your son or daughter watches you learn something hard at 45, that lands. It's the best lesson we teach, and we don't teach it — you do."
— Coach Nolan

How the schedule works

Adult classes run six days a week. On most weeknights the adult class starts right after the kids' class ends — same trip, same building.

Check the schedule and find a night that fits. Family members train at a reduced rate; ask at the front desk, or view our family pricing here.

Try a class

Your first class is free. You already know where we are.

Come in, do the rounds, and see how the hour feels. If it's not for you, no harm done. If it is, you'll wish you'd started last September.

Union Martial Arts is in Indian Trail, training adults from across Union County — Stallings, Matthews, Weddington, Waxhaw, Wesley Chapel, and Monroe.

Frequently Asked Questions

I haven't worked out in years. Is that a problem?
No. Most adults who start with us are in the same spot. The class scales to you, and the coaching adjusts. Give it two months before you judge your progress.

Will I be sparring?
Only if you choose to. Sparring rounds run at the end of class for those who want them. Plenty of members train for years and never spar.

Can I train at the same time as my kid?
Kids and adults train in separate classes, but on several nights they run back to back. Many families do one trip — the kid trains, then the parent does.
