What is MMA Training?

Mixed Martial Arts is about learning to be effective in every range of self-defense — standing, in the clinch, and on the ground. Through a mix of striking, grappling, and ground work, MMA training develops practical skill, confidence, and adaptability under pressure.

MMA training at Union Martial Arts isn’t about memorizing moves — it’s about understanding them: why a technique works, when to use it, and how to connect it seamlessly with the next. That level of awareness creates real effectiveness. Here are a few of the core areas we focus on: Striking: Boxing & Muay Thai

Who Is MMA Training For?

MMA training at Union Martial Arts is designed for anyone looking to build skill, fitness, and confidence — whether you’ve never trained before or you’ve been on the mats for years.

Complete Beginners Welcome

Most of our students start with no prior martial arts experience — and that’s exactly how it should be. Classes are structured so beginners can learn safely, build skills step by step, and develop fitness through the training itself. You don’t need to be in shape to start; training here will take care of that

Fitness-Focused Adults

MMA offers one of the most complete and rewarding workouts there is — developing strength, endurance, and coordination while learning a real, applicable, life skill. It’s not fitness for the sake of fitness; every round trains both your body and your ability to perform under pressure. It’s fitness with a purpose

Self-Defense Minded Individuals

MMA prepares you for reality — giving you the tools to defend yourself in any situation. Training develops control in every range of self-defense: standing, clinching, and on the ground.

Kids & Teens Building Confidence

For kids and teens, MMA builds confidence and character. There is nothing like physical discipline to develop the body and mind of young people. We teach MMA in an age-appropriate way that challenges students physically while consistently reinforcing values like discipline, work ethic, and respect — giving them a positive outlet for fitness and learning away from screens, while forming strong friendships and a sense of team that keeps them motivated and connected.

Former Athletes Seeking New Challenges

Many of our adult students come from athletic backgrounds — wrestling, football, soccer, baseball, and more. MMA offers them a new and inspiring outlet for that same competitive drive. It challenges the body, sharpens the mind, and brings back the sense of teamwork and shared pursuit that athletes thrive on — all within a welcoming, disciplined, and community-centered environment.

MMA Class Structure

Our MMA classes are one hour long and intentionally designed to develop all aspects of mixed martial arts skill. Each session blends technical learning, live application, and physical conditioning to build well-rounded, adaptable athletes.

1

Warm-Up & Movement Drills

Warm-Up & Movement Drills Dynamic stretching, movement, and footwork preparation get your body and mind ready for the concepts being trained that day. Great attention is paid to the why behind every technique, so you understand not only how to move, but why it works and when to use it.

2

Technique Instruction & Drilling

Detailed breakdowns and live work on specific techniques, combinations, or positional concepts through partner drills, mitts, Muay Thai pads, and more. The focus is on quality reps, proper form, and technical precision.

3

Live Training & Application

Scenario-based training, positional sparring, and controlled live rounds let you apply techniques against resisting partners. This bridges the gap between drilling and real performance, building the adaptability that MMA demands.

4

Conditioning & Mobility

We finish each session with a conditioning circuit — building functional strength and endurance that carry over directly to performance. Stretching and mobility work during the cooldown improve flexibility, aid recovery, and help prevent injury over time.

Kids & Teens MMA Classes

Our Kids and Teens MMA program builds confidence, discipline, and focus through structured, age-appropriate training that challenges students both physically and mentally. There’s nothing quite like martial arts to develop the body and mind of young people — it teaches accountability, respect, and resilience in a way that lasts.

Each class balances skill development with lessons in character and teamwork. We focus on:

  • Physical discipline — developing strength, coordination, and endurance through consistent effort.

  • Mental resilience — learning how to stay composed under pressure and bounce back from frustration.

  • Respect and focus — listening, following direction, and showing consideration for others on and off the mats.

  • Team camaraderie — building friendships and support through shared goals and hard work.
