Adult Kickboxing in Indian Trail: Strength, Cardio, and Skill in One Session

Adults training on heavy bags in an adult kickboxing class at Union Martial Arts in Indian Trail.

Most adults don't stop working out because they're lazy. They stop because it's boring.

The treadmill, the same machines, the same 45 minutes of watching a clock. It works for a while. Then motivation fades, and the gym bag sits by the door.

Kickboxing solves a different problem. You're not counting minutes — you're learning to move, and the workout happens along the way.

Three things in one session

A single class covers what usually takes three.

Strength comes from throwing real combinations on a heavy bag — power built through the hips, shoulders, and core, not just isolated reps.

Cardio comes from the rounds. Coach-led bag work and drills keep your heart rate up without a machine telling you to.

Skill comes from the technique — footwork, timing, defense, and how to actually put a combination together. That's the part a treadmill can't give you, and it's the part that keeps people coming back.

You leave having trained your whole body and learned something. Every class.

Why it sticks when the treadmill doesn't

Two reasons: progression and people.

You can see yourself getting better. A combination that felt awkward in week one becomes natural by week six. Your conditioning climbs. Your technique sharpens. Progress you can feel beats a calorie count every time.

And you're not doing it alone. You train alongside other adults who show up for the same reasons — people who notice when you're there and when you're not. That's the quiet thing that turns a workout into a habit. The friendships built on the mat are real, and they're a big part of why members stay for years instead of weeks.

Great classes, by design

None of this happens by accident. Our adult classes are coach-led and built with a structure — technique, drills, bag work, and conditioning in an order that makes sense. Our floor is set up for it, with 28 heavy bags and room to train hard safely. You're not left to figure it out on your own. You're coached.

What the training actually does

We see the same changes again and again.

People get leaner and stronger. Their conditioning improves in a way that carries into everything else — stairs, sports, keeping up with their kids. They stand a little taller. They handle stress better, because they've spent an hour focused on something demanding instead of their inbox.

Most of them didn't walk in as athletes. They came in a little out of shape, a little unsure, and stayed because the training finally gave them something to work toward.

You don't need a background

This is the part that stops most people, so let's be clear: you don't need experience, and you don't need to be in shape first.

Our adult classes are built for beginners. You'll learn the fundamentals in order, at a pace you can handle. This isn't a fight team, and nobody is going to throw you to the wolves. You work at your level — and your level moves up faster than you'd expect.

Whether you're 25 or 55, coming off years of no exercise or just looking for something better than the gym, there's a place for you in class.

For adults who want to go further, we also teach No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu and MMA — but kickboxing is where most people start, and it's a full workout on its own.
